Happy 2019! Since my blogging frequency wasn’t exactly stellar last year, I wanted to share a giant roundup of my favorite engagement and wedding photography of 2018. This past year was pretty crazy and I shot the most weddings I’ve photographed in a single year yet – including a triple header (Thursday through Saturday) that spanned 750 miles in California!
My clients were incredibly kind, colorful, and fun. Some of my absolute favorite shoots ever happened in 2018, and I’m very grateful to have found such creative kindred spirits and to get to do this for my job! The long chronological post starts after these first three favorite pics!
I kicked off 2018 with a stunning Manhattan Beach engagement session for Teresa and Hoang at golden hour just a couple days after the New Year.
January also included Rebekah and Michael’s funky Big Daddy’s Antiques Wedding:
I went back to Big Daddy’s Antiques the following weekend for Kara and Mark’s beautiful wedding, featured here on Green Wedding Shoes!
My dear friends Christen and Brett got engaged! We shot their pics all around LA, including their backyard where Mike and I got engaged too!
Kelli and Jay’s wedding at the Neon Sign Museum in Las Vegas! One of my favorite locations ever!
Winslow and Carlos’ music-themed engagement session at Amoeba Records and the Hollywood Bowl:
Lisa and Calvin’s wedding at The Casino San Clemente!
Amy and Eli’s Culver City engagement session was such a blast – they’re getting married outside of San Francisco this March.
Janice and Dawson’s Palm Desert wedding at The Living Zoo, featured here on Wedding Chicks!
Cat and Darren’s wedding at The Ebell Long Beach! They included TV screenplay readings in their ceremony and it was AWESOME.
Anna and Mark’s beachside wedding at Ole Hanson Beach Club in San Clemente where they made my confetti dreams come true!
I loved the creativity of Debbie and Zack’s Doctor Who themed wedding, featured on Green Wedding Shoes!
Aly, Gavin, and I had an adventure in Palm Springs for their engagement session! I can’t wait for their big day in April.
Caitlin and Brian’s wedding at The Fig House included one of my favorite schemes – pink, yellow, and teal!
Teresa and Hoang once again had magical light, this time for their wedding day at Mountain Gate Country Club.
Lauren and Max got married the next day at 1880 Union Hotel in Los Alamos – another one of my new favorite venues!
Andi and Seb had a colorful and incredibly fun day at The Unique Space in Los Angeles’ Art District!
We took some time for portraits around the city before their ceremony – I love when couples include this in their schedule! It makes for such a fun photo adventure!
Day one of my triple header in June – Michelle and Jordan’s incredibly sweet wedding created by Details, Darling and featured on 100 Layer Cake! It took place at Sacred Mountain Resort in Julian, CA.
Day two – Courtney and Eric’s gorgeous soiree at the San Diego Botanic Garden! Their day was perfectly overcast, making it even easier to photograph an already stunning location and couple!
Day three of the triple header – Teresa and Dan’s incredible DIY wedding at Higuera Ranch in San Luis Obispo! Teresa made her own gown and it blew me away!!
Teresa also changed into this gorgeous reception outfit. That cape!
Lauren and Greg had a joyous wedding on one of the hottest days of 2018. It was triple digits when this photo was taken at the Westlake Village Inn!
Their wedding took place in Camarillo at Spanish Hills Country Club, where it was thankfully ten degrees cooler – it made a world of difference!
I traveled to NYC in July to photograph Rose Mansion‘s launch, and while I was in the city I met up with Sam and Kyle at iconic Coney Island!
Kristen and Chris celebrated their marriage in August at the Houdini Estate in Laurel Canyon! This location, WOW. Not only is it 15 minutes from my home (yay!) but it’s filled with amazing history and stunning backdrops.
Julianna and David picked the latest Marvimon locations for their wedding, starting with getting ready at Flora Chang.
Their wedding was at Valentine, aka my dream come true.
KC and Adam had their engagement session out at Malibu Creek Park! I’m very grateful we were able to have their gorgeous shoot at this beautiful location before the devastating fires descended in November. These two are getting married in June and it’s bound to be amazing!
Ramya and Garrett had their engagement session at the Venice Canals! I’m in love with their style and know their Fig House wedding in September is going to be just as colorful and chic.
Christen and Brett tied the knot at Adamson House and had the most perfect autumn California weather! Their big day might just be hitting a favorite wedding blog of mine in the near future…!
I drove up to my favorite place in the world, Yosemite National Park, the day after Christen and Brett’s wedding. I also hand carried a gorgeous bouquet by my BFF Angelena of Shindig Chic for Jessica and Matt’s breathtaking love session-turned proposal!! You can see the full scoop here on Green Wedding Shoes!
I found myself back at the Venice Canals less than two weeks after Ramya and Garrett’s engagement session to photograph this lookbook for David’s Bridal and 100 Layer Cake! Hannah and Chase are a real couple and looked perfect in every photo – you can see the whole shoot here!
Caitlin and David had perfectly diffused sunlight for their wedding at Descanso Gardens in October!
A definite highlight of my year – Sam and Kyle’s Palm Springs elopement!! Dream. Come. True. Their big day was featured here on Green Wedding Shoes!
A couple of days after Sam and Kyle’s pink elopement I was lucky enough to capture another color explosion! Kimberly and Williams’s wedding had everything I love, including a balloon installation by Cyn of Hot Pink Pineapples, gorgeous unicorn hair, custom denim embroidery, and florals by Shindig Chic!
I took my first trip to Colorado to capture Margaret and Chris’ beautiful wedding! It poured on their wedding day at Hotel Born in Denver, but luckily everything was indoors/under shelter!
You can see the rain coming in behind them here! It was very chilly but everyone was so patient and fun.
I (obviously?) prefer natural light and almost exclusively post those images in my portfolio, but days like this call for a strong off-camera flash system. I’m so grateful to my dear friend Amy for teaching me her travel-friendly system last year – it’s been a game changer!!
Margaret and Chris planned a day-after session, which was especially awesome given the rainy weather on their wedding day. We hit up the LoHi neighborhood in Denver, grabbed their sweet Frenchie, Babar, and also went to the mountains in Boulder. We had a perfect afternoon!
Melia and Ryan got married in the midst of the California wildfire crisis. They were very lucky that their venue, Eden Gardens in Moorpark, wasn’t affected. They also brought along Ryan’s grandfather’s vintage VW bug, aka the key to my heart.
Closing out this roundup with Winslow and Carlos’ gorgeous wedding at Rancho Las Lomas in Silverado, CA. They had a lot of personal things happening in the background and I was blown away by their strength, kindness, and resilience. So much love for these two!
What an incredible year! I tried to be diligent about booking clients that are a great match for my personality and style and definitely want to continue on this path in 2019. I’m also attempting not to do anymore double (or triple) headers – although we’ll see if I can stick to that!
This year already holds some fun travels for out-of-state (and country!) weddings and it looks like I’ll be exploring new places more than ever. I’d really like to have a passion project (hint: vintage cars) and continue to build my commercial business. There wasn’t any time for styled shoots in 2018 and I can promise that won’t be the case this year…! Angelena and I already have some fun plans up our sleeves!
Thank you for following along with my dream and for all of your support! Happy New Year!
