Several months ago Jaclyn contacted me to see if I might be willing to travel to Hawaii for their wedding in 2017, and if I was available to go to Texas during bluebonnet season for their engagement session. First off all – YES – and secondly, what’s a bluebonnet?? Being the New Englander-turned Californian that I am, I’d never heard of these magnificent flowers! These blooms are cherished and celebrated in Texas, and a quick Google image search told me we had to make this happen.
Jaclyn and Jeremy are true adventurous spirits. Even though we missed peak bluebonnet season by a couple of weeks and heard reports of rainstorms washing out nearly all that was left of the flowers, they were still totally game to make the trek from LA to Texas. Thanks to Jeremy and his awesome mom, we happened upon perhaps the one blooming field left near Dallas. It was on private property, and luckily for us the owners gave us access for part of our session! It felt like something truly out of a fairy tale – we had to walk through dark woods and forge a poisonous snake-ridden swamp (my greatest fear ever) to get to this beautiful hillside covered with bluebonnets and Indian paintbrush flowers – but man, was it worth it! We finished our shoot at a gorgeous open field and ended the night with some classic Texas BBQ and Frito Pie. What an amazing trip!
