The Heart Cake // Year Two

Rebecca, Megan, and Jessica share a lot in common. They never say no to a photo shoot, they love sweets, they are or have been vegetarians, they’re three of my very best friends from college, and now they all live in the same apartment building a mere 2.2 miles away. Awesome? Yes!

Anyways, last year Becca and I made a cake with a heart inside of it as a fun Valentine’s challenge – it’s completely from scratch and took a ridiculously long time. Naturally I decided this is going to be an annual event with Bec, and each year I plan on taking a new heart cake photo (or several, as the case may be). I wanted this year’s photo shoot to be a celebration of female friendships. I think it’s easy to get caught up in the romanticism of Valentine’s Day and forget how we should to be grateful for all the love in our lives. I am so thankful for my girls, both near and far – I don’t know what I’d do without them!

Thus, the four of us gathered this past weekend for an afternoon of laughter, champagne, and of course, the heart cake. HUGE thanks to Jess for putting her set design skills to work and making the amazing background!
Moment of truth…
The heart is a bit pointy, but it’s a success!
Bright colors and hearts? How could I not partake for a bit? (Please note last year’s disclaimer on my overuse of this shirt).
Time for some very serious photos. It almost looks as if I’m dipping my fork in Megan’s champagne, which is terrible.

The light in Jess’ apartment was nearly gone by the end of the shoot, so pulled out a flash. This isn’t normally my style, but I love this photo of Megan!

Happy Valentine’s Day! I hope yours is full of love.
